The Green Party of Allegheny County held its presidential caucus on Thursday April 7th. The caucus was held in Squirrel Hill at Citizen Power on Murray Avenue.
Five people are seeking the Green Party of the United States presidential nomination. They are: Jill Stein, William Kreml, Kent Mesplay, Sedinam Kinamo Christin Moyowasifza-Curry and Darryl Cherney.
Dr. Jill Stein won the caucus with one hundred percent of the vote. Dr. Stein was the Green Party's presidential candidate in 2012. Other county level Green parties will be holding their caucuses throughout April.
After the caucus the general assembly meeting for April was held. Discussion took place on the 2016 elections (local, state and federal elections), building the party, outreach and other issues.
Twelve people were present for the meeting. Eleven were registered Greens, one was a guest and a thirteenth person took part via an absentee ballot. Besides Allegheny County, Greens came from Armstrong, Westmoreland and Butler Counties (Greens living in counties that do not have an organized Green Party may take part in the Allegheny County Green caucus).
Forty-five dollars was donated during the meeting.
